THE PHAT QUANG SOCIETAL PHILANTHROPIC CENTRE

THE FOUNDATION OF PHAT QUANG CHERITY SCHOOL
In the end of the year 2001, after five years
abroad training in China, Venerable Minh Nhan
returned to his native country with the Master
Degree in Oriental Philosophies. He wished to
realize his long-time ambition to found a
charitable organization to receive and bring up
orphans, illiterate street children in order to
offer them access to education and occupation to
earn their own living as well as relieve the
society of a heavy burden.

Children fostered by and in the
Phat Quang Societal Philanthropic Centre
His whish was
willingly supported by a number of domestic and
overseas Buddhist performers, both spiritually
and materially. Hence, he started to build the
charity school named Phat Quang.
(Phat Quang is a name of the pagoda where he
took holy orders to be a monk at age 13. It is
the one that brought him up and where presently
he is head of monks. The pagoda is located at
No.83, Quang Trung St., Vinh Quang Ward, Rach
Gia City, Kien Giang.)
The school was
built in April, 2002 and completed in September,
2002 on a piece of land area 2,5 hectares in
size, in the rice production zone named Tan Hung
of the commune of My Lam, Hon Dat districk, Kien
Giang, which is 10 kilometers from Rach Gia city
and on the route from Rach Gia city to Ha Tien
town.
The school started
its fist school year on Sept. 06th, 2002 with
the enrolment of 100 students in three elementary
grades: 1, 2 and 3.
The school is a
full time boarding school. Complete
school-activities are scheduled from 5 am until
20:30 pm every day. It provides (without any
charge) the studens with all necessities. In
addition to academic education, students also
learn computer science, English and other
subjects and activities such as gymnastics,
music, gardening for the purpose of full
physical and mental development.
From school year 2005-2006 onwards, the school
added industrial and domestic tailoring into its
curriculum for the sake of occupation
orientation. It is expected that by the end of
2007, the students will be able to do outwork
for clothig factories to earn money and raise
fund for their home school.
